HS Boys’ Wrestling: Schuylkill League releases tournament schedule

The Schuylkill League Wrestling Championships are approaching.

Blue Mountain, Mahanoy Area, North Schuylkill, Panther Valley, Pine Grove, Pottsville, Schuylkill Haven, Tamaqua, Tri-Valley and Williams Valley will compete in the annual gathering.

Here’s what you need to know:

What: Schuylkill League Wrestling Championships

When: Saturday, Jan. 17

Where: Martz Hall, Pottsville

Sessions

9 a.m. — JV Tournament to conclusion

9 a.m. — Varsity preliminaries

9:45 a.m. — Championship quarterfinals

11 a.m. — Championship semifinals and second-round consolations

Noon — Third-round consolations

12:30 p.m. — Fourth-round consolations

2:30 p.m. — First-, third- and fifth-place matches simultaneously on 3 mats

**Times are approximate. All wrestlers and coaches should be ready at least 30 minutes prior to the time listed.

2025 recap

With five champions, North Schuylkill captured the team title, 212-198 over runner-up Blue Mountain. Pine Grove (173.5) placed third.

Returning champions expected to be in the field (with last year’s weight) include Tri-Valley’s Owen Wolfgang (107), North Schuylkill’s Alex Deritis (114), Blue Mountain’s Brian Brobst (133), Blue Mountain’s Bryce Bodenberg (139), Blue Mountain’s Owen Woll (152), Pottsville’s Terrell McFarland (172) and North Schuylkill’s Cadyn McGraw (215).

McFarland is aiming to become a four-time league champion. Wolfgang and Woll are two-time league champs.

Look for much more on the tournament next week when the seeding and brackets become available.
