Blue Mountain rides big 2nd half to beat Pottsville

 

ORWIGSBURG — Hailey Place sparked a big second half and scored a game-high 18 points to lead Blue Mountain to a 41-24 victory over Pottsville in Schuylkill League Division I girls’ basketball game Monday night.

Place had 11 of her points in the second half as the Eagles pulled away from a 15-12 halftime lead. Blue Mountain outscored Pottsville 26-12 over the final two periods.

The victory, coupled with Schuylkill Haven’s win over Tamaqua, moved Blue Mountain into a third-place tie with Tamaqua and Pine Grove in the Division I standings.

Jo Barnhart had 10 points to lead Pottsville, which was hampered by an 0-for-9 performance at the foul line.

Pine Grove 44, Minersville 24

PINE GROVE — Meadow Umbenhauer scored seven of her 11 points in a big first-quarter run as the Cardinals cruised to a Division I win over the Miners.

Lainey Fidler added six points in the first frame as Pine Grove broke out to an 18-6 lead and led 28-10 at intermission. Hollyn Sampson added 10 points for the Cards, while Fidler finished with eight.

Jenna Cullen paced Minersville with nine points.

LANSFORD — Mya Conti torched the PV defense for a game-high 24 points as the Spartans captured the Schuylkill League Division I victory.

Conti had 16 points in the first half as North Schuylkill raced out to a 35-11 halftime lead. Ella Digris added nine points for the Spartans.

Morgan Orsulak paced Panther Valley with nine points.

TOWER CITY — Mallory Miller lit up the scoreboard for a season-high 35 points as the Vikings claimed their ninth straight victory with a Schuylkill League Division II rout of the Dawgs.

Miller scored 27 points in the first half as Williams Valley raced out to a 51-10 lead at halftime.

Avery Miller scored 17 points and Ava Snyder pulled down 13 rebounds for Tri-Valley.

SHAMOKIN — Hannah Lokitis dominated the inside with 10 points, 15 rebounds and five blocked shots as the Red Raiders won their sixth straight game with a Schuylkill League Division II win over the Blue Devils.

Kylla Sandri led all scorers with 13 points for Lourdes, which broke the game open with a 23-point third quarter. The victory was the 999th in program history for Lourdes.

Litzy Salguero had 11 points and Jocelyn Chagolla tallied 10 for Shenandoah Valley.
