Miller posts 2 league-best times in North Schuylkill’s win over Pine Grove

 

SCHUYLKILL HAVEN — Niko Carestia, Ethan Kline, Colton McClusky and Jack Krammes each won a pair of events as Schuylkill Haven topped Shenandoah Valley 99-42 in a Schuylkill League Division II boys’ track and field meet Wednesday at Rotary Field.

Carestia won the 100-meter dash and javelin, Kline took first in the shot put and discus, McClusky raced to wins in the 1600 and 3200 and Krammes swept the hurdles as the Hurricanes (3-0, 3-0 D-II) won 13 of 17 contested events. Haven also swept the relays.

Michael Elchisak took first in the long jump and triple jump for Shenandoah Valley (0-2, 0-2), while Carlos Meza (400) and Omari Townes (high jump) added wins.

North Schuylkill 105, Pine Grove 23

FOUNTAIN SPRINGS — Luke Miller posted league-best times in the 200 and 400 as the Spartans cruised past the Cardinals in a Schuylkill League Division I meet at Ghosh Orthodontics Field at Spartan Stadium.

Miller was clocked in 21.40 seconds in the 200 and 51.60 seconds in the 400, pacing North Schuylkill sweeps in both events. Xavier McNally won three events for the Spartans (2-1, 1-1 D-I), winning the high jump, long jump and triple jump.

Dru Herber accounted for 15 of his team’s 23 points for Pine Grove (1-2, 0-2), winning the 800, 1600 and 3200.

Tamaqua 89, Minersville 56

TAMAQUA — The Blue Raiders finished 1-2 in eight events to knock off the Miners in a Schuylkill League Division I dual meet Tuesday.

Tamaqua (1-1, 1-1 D-I) showcased its depth with nine different athletes scoring individual victories. The Blue Raiders were especially dominant in the distance running and hurdles events, outscoring Minersville 32-4 in the 1600, 3200 and both hurdles races.

Chase Zimerofsky (400, long jump, triple jump) won three times for Minersville (2-1, 1-1) while Parker Zaharis took first in the 100 and 200.

SCHUYLKILL HAVEN — Ava Terefencko and Bella Murphy each won three times as the Hurricanes raced past the Blue Devils in a Schuylkill League Division II meet at Rotary Field.

Terefencko swept the hurdles and won the 400, while Murphy swept the jumps. Audrey Hutchinson (100, 200) and Allie Bright (1600, 3200) were double-winners as Schuylkill Haven took 15 of 17 contested events.

Breonna Zelinsky won the shot put for the only individual win for Shenandoah Valley (0-2, 0-2).

Dando won the 1600 and 3200, helping the Spartans (2-1, 1-1) win 11 of 17 events. Lauren Powis was also a double-winner taking first in the high jump and discus.

Molly Frantz, Tatiana Salefski, Kyla Rose, Olivia Greblick added wins on the track, while Mia McDonald and Emmy Pearce too first in field events.

Bella Kassab, Carla Firestone, Rieleigh Purcell and Alyssa Moyer notched victories for Pine Grove (0-2, 0-2).

TAMAQUA — Maggie Hoffman-Long’s season debut was an impressive one as she won three events to lead the Miners past the Blue Raiders in a Schuylkill League Division I dual meet Tuesday.

Hoffman-Long, a state qualifier last season, took first in the 100, long jump and triple as Minersville won 13 of 18 events. Marley Zimmerman (800, 1600) and Avery Miller (javelin, discus) were double-winners for the Miners (2-1, 1-1 D-I).

Millie Black, Payton Selby, Katelynn Fredericks and Jaana Tamagini scored individual wins for Tamaqua (0-2, 0-2).
