HS Track: Minersville’s Hoffman-Long earns MVP honors at Pan-Ram Invitational

Miners’ senior wins 3 events; North Schuylkill’s Miller captures 100

HARRISBURG — Maggie Hoffman-Long won two events and earned girls’ MVP honors to help the Minersville girls place second out of 33 teams at Saturday’s Pan-Ram Invitational at Central Dauphin Middle School’s Landis Field.

Minersville and North Schuylkill competed in the invitational, with both squads posting strong results.

Hoffman-Long dominated on the girls’ side, winning the long jump and triple jump and placing sixth in the 100-meter dash. Long leaped 17 feet to win the long jump, then posted a top jump of 35-11.75 to capture the triple jump.

Avery Miller also had a strong day for Minersville, winning the javelin with a top throw of 116-11 and placing ninth in the discus. Arianna John (shot put) and Alyssa Cook (pole vault) earned bronze medals for the Miners, while the quartet of Jenna Cullen, Anna Cook, Allie Pennypacker and Marley Zimmerman took second in the 3200 relay.

Genevieve Dando was the top girls’ performer for North Schuylkill, taking sixth in the 1600, 10th in the 3200 and teaming with Olivia Greblick, Alyzza Rockwell and Carissa Ossman to place ninth in the 1600 relay.

The Minersville girls compiled 53 team points to place second out of 33 girls’ teams. Williamsport took the team title with 75 points.

On the boys’ side, North Schuylkill’s Luke Miller won the 100 meters in 10.66 and teamed with Daniel Brake, Julian Nelson and Caden Mengel to place third in the 400 relay in 43.32.

Chase Zimerofsky had a strong day for Minersville, placing fifth in the triple jump and teaming with Mackaiden Sinko, Johnny Burgess and Grady McGovern to take sixth in the 3200 relay.

North Schuylkill was 11th and Minersville 25th in the boys’ team standings out of 31 squads. Williamsport also won that team crown.
