North Schuylkill, Williams Valley pile up runs in decisive wins

ORWIGSBURG — Tri-Valley struck early and held on late in a back-and-forth showdown.

The Dawgs built a first-inning cushion and edged Blue Mountain 6-5 in a Schuylkill League Division I baseball game Thursday at Allen Greenawalt Field, handing the Eagles a tough loss despite being out-hit.

Tri-Valley wasted no time jumping in front, plating four runs in the opening inning behind timely hitting, including a two-run single from Gavin Klock. The early surge gave the Dawgs momentum, but Blue Mountain responded quickly, rallying to tie the game with a three-run first and another run in the second.

Aiden Finn delivered a key RBI single as the Eagles battled back to even things at 4-4.

The game remained tight into the later innings before Tri-Valley regained the edge in the sixth. Braeden Doyle came through with a go-ahead RBI single, helping push the Dawgs back in front. They added another run in the inning, which proved to be the difference.

Doyle earned the win on the mound, working six innings while allowing five runs on 11 hits and striking out six. Gavin Klock closed things out in the seventh to secure the save. Riley Sebastian kept Blue Mountain in the game early, striking out seven over five innings, but Frankie Russo took the loss in relief.

Blue Mountain finished with 11 hits, getting multi-hit efforts from Finn, Brady Strause, Cohen Kirby and Russo, but couldn’t find the timely hit late.

Tri-Valley countered with nine hits, with Jason Stewart and Klock each collecting two as the Dawgs also created pressure on the bases with six stolen bags.

Snyder launched a three-run homer to spark a four-run opening inning, and the Cardinals followed with another big frame in the second to build an early cushion. Kaiden Umbenhauer and Evan Cataldo added RBI hits as Pine Grove jumped out in front and never trailed.

Pottsville chipped away behind multi-hit efforts from Max Clews and Harrison Ciavarella, and cut into the deficit with runs in the middle innings. Christian Alvarez drove in two runs as the Crimson Tide finished with eight hits, but couldn’t fully erase the early deficit.

Snyder earned the win on the mound, working into the sixth, while Jake Hatter added two hits for Pine Grove. Despite the loss, Pottsville continued to battle late, but Pine Grove’s fast start proved to be the difference.

Alan Evans set the tone on the mound, working six strong innings while allowing just one run — unearned — on four hits, striking out seven. The Hurricanes backed him with aggressive baserunning and patience at the plate, drawing walks and swiping six bases to keep pressure on Minersville throughout.

Nolan Plesnarski led the Battlin’ Miners with two hits, and Aidan Ryan drove in the lone run, but Minersville couldn’t generate enough offense to keep pace as Schuylkill Haven extended its lead late.
