PINE GROVE — Talk about setting the tone.

Callee Leffler leadoff triple. Hannah Aungst RBI triple.

In two batters, Pine Grove had the only run it needed as PGA shut out Williams Valley 9-0 on a summer-like Saturday in the championship game of the Cardinal Classic at Susan Y. Stump Field.

While Pine Grove built a big early lead, Jamie Dinger sparkled in the circle. The junior right-hander pitched a seven-inning perfect game — 21 up, 21 down — striking out five. Dinger needed just 64 pitches (52 strikes) in her gem. She also pitched two shutout innings in relief in the first game of the tournament.

“Jamie was dealing for us,” Pine Grove coach Ryan Leffler said. “The great defense behind her, hitting her spots, mixing speeds up. She did an outstanding job for us today.”

Pine Grove jumped on Williams Valley from the start. After Leffler’s and Aungst’s back-to-back triples, the Cardinals didn’t stop there. An error allowed Aungst to score, and Lily Flynn doubled. With two outs, Chelcy Clark lined a three-run double down the right-field line to push Pine Grove’s lead to 5-0.

In the second inning, Dinger and Khloe Jessman delivered RBI singles to extend the advantage to 7-0.

Clark singled home a run in the fifth inning, and Dinger rapped an RBI single in the sixth. Clark finished 2-for-3 with four RBIs; Dinger went 2-for-4 with two RBIs. Aungst finished 2-for-4 with one run and one RBI, while Callee Leffler scored three runs.

In the first semifinal, Pine Grove routed Class 5A Upper Perkiomen 16-2 in five innings. Callee Leffler scored four runs; Aungst and Dinger had a single and three RBIs apiece; and Flynn doubled and drove in two runs. Meadow Umbenhauer went 2-for-2 with a double, two runs and one RBI, while Tailyn Bohr went 2-for-3 with two runs and one RBI.

In the second semifinal, Kamri Koppenhaver hurled a two-hit shutout as Williams Valley defeated Greater Nanticoke Area 8-0. Koppenhaver struck out 15 and walked two in her gem.

Brennah Underkoffler singled, drove in two runs and scored one for the Vikings. Ella Kobularik doubled and knocked in a run, while Quin Smeltz added a double.

In the consolation game, Upper Perkiomen defeated Greater Nanticoke Area 10-0 in five innings.

“This morning, we went for a team breakfast. We talked about North Schuylkill (a loss Thursday), and we wanted to come out and show the type of team we are in these two games,” Pine Grove coach Ryan Leffler said.

“I thought we did a lot of good things today,” the coach added. “The kids stepped up for us, one through nine.”
