HS Softball: Pine Grove Area rolls past Mahanoy Area

PINE GROVE — Lily Flynn went 3-for-4 with a double, a triple, three runs and two RBIs to power Pine Grove Area past Mahanoy Area 16-1 in a four-inning Schuylkill League Division I softball game Thursday at Susan Y. Stump Field.

The Cardinals scored 11 runs in the first inning and finished with 18 hits.

Khloe Jessman went 3-for-3 with two runs and one RBI, while Meadow Umbenhauer finished 3-for-3 with two runs and one RBI. Tailyn Bohr posted a 2-for-3 day with a double, one run and one RBI, while Hannah Aungst went 2-for-4 with a double, two runs and two RBIs.

Winning pitcher Chelcy Clark hurled a one-hitter, striking out seven in four innings of work. Clark helped herself with a single and two RBIs.

FOUNTAIN SPRINGS — Brigid Flynn and Olivia Jones combined on a one-hit shutout as North Schuylkill defeated Tamaqua in a Division I game moved to Dot Seidel Field because of unplayable field conditions at Tamaqua.

Flynn struck out six and walked one in six innings; Jones whiffed three in her one inning of work.

Mallorie Croker paced North Schuylkill’s offense by going 4-for-4 with three doubles, a home run, two runs scored and two RBIs.

Jordanna Frie homered and knocked in three runs; Lyza Holmes hit a home run and drove in two; and Gianna Capone homered and had two RBIs.

Jones went 2-for-3 with one run and one RBI for the Spartans.

POTTSVILLE — Rebecca Caldwell, Aisha Zuberi, Maci Kane and Madison Makowiec rapped three hits apiece as Weatherly downed Nativity in a Division II game atop Lawton’s Hill.

Caldwell finished 3-for-4 with a three-run home run and three runs scored. Maci Kane went 3-for-3 with a two-run homer, four runs and three RBIs for the Wreckers, who took control with a nine-run second inning.

Zuberi went 3-for-4 with a double, three runs and three RBIs; Makowiec went 3-for-4 with a double, two RBIs and a run scored; and Abby Weston finished 2-for-3 with a triple, three runs and two RBIs.

Abby Binder pitched a complete game, striking out eight and allowing just two hits. She helped herself with a two-run single in the second inning.

Lauren Clark went 2-for-2 with a run scored and an RBI for Nativity.

Alabovitz helped herself with a single, two RBIs and a run scored. Isabella D’Ancona doubled and knocked in two runs, while Danika Blazosky and Janessa Prudente had a single and two runs scored apiece for the Panthers.
